Some highly technical and steep sections along Blackbutt Rd

This ride was originally an attempt to link up with the town of Comboyne, but to be brutally honest (and let this serve as a caveat to you), the ride dished out a little bit more than we bargained for.
Beginning in the quiet town of Kendall, this route takes in many logging roads through the state forests of Kew, Lorne, Bulls Ground and Northern Branch.
The main attraction of this ride is Blackbutt Rd and while things start out innocent enough, they exponentially become tougher and tougher as you venture deeper into the forest.
It’s all rideable until you hit Fork Creek in which you are then greeted with a sizeable gravel wall.
To be fair, as a 40km loop, you don’t mind a little hike-a-bike and luckily for us, Lorne Access Rd was a bailout option which we didn’t know we had, hence the creation of this loop.
The roads mellowed out from that point & Lorne Access Rd was a terrific ride. It was all smooth sailing from there back into Kendall.
Please note: there are no services along this route so please take plenty of water and snacks.
