The Dirty Pig & Whistle is a fantastic event held in Creswick, just outside Ballarat in the Goldfields Region.

The event is held in May, just before winter and Ballarat is quite well known for being significantly colder than Melbourne (only a 90min drive away). So rug up, as on this occasion, the weather was significantly blustery.

The course is fantastic and also offers 40km, 80m and 160km alternatives which you can find on The Pig & Whistle website.

This version (the 120km), snakes its way through Creswick Pine Plantations with a significant amount of climbing early on and the requirement to pick a good line as there’s some slippery and washy sections.

Woodlands follow, more scenic plantations, some quiet farmland roads and even a grassy paddock as you prepare for the only stop on your journey at 75km in Clunes.

After Clunes, you’ll cross some more open and somewhat exposed farmland roads with a more mellow vertical profile than the first half of the route before winding through a different Creswick Plantation and back into Creswick.
