Smooth gravel and lots of it is what awaits you on this cracking 120km route. Definitely one of my favourite gravel rides of this distance in Melbourne.
Bunyip State Park is simply massive and full of winding forest gravel trails. There’s an awesome section through a power-line cutting and plenty of views through-out.
You’ll experience the forest change from areas of fire regrowth at lower levels and as you climb, fernier and greener sections towards Gembrook.
While a little remote at times, its quite a popular area and you’ll come across a few cars on your journey so remember to always stick left.
There’s nothing on route too difficult to tackle, a few slightly washed out sections, sections with some looser gravel and some long steady climbs but nothing that’ll force you to jump off your bike.
A wonderful full day ride within an hour of Melbourne.

– The one and only lunch stop is in Gembrook at the 92km mark of the ride where there is plenty open to choose from as well as toilet facilities.
Given that this is the only town on the ride and a fair distance from the starting point, it’s advisable to bring plenty of snacks and water.
– 76% of this route is gravel which is mostly non-technical however recent rains have created small washouts but nothing unridable.
– This route takes you through the small settlement of Labertouche, then through Bunyip State Park, the Seven Acre Rock Lookout attraction and Gembrook township.
